Current Gallery: rectangular ( piece)
The basic geometric shape acts as a stepping off point for this set of color rich paintings. When I use the computer program Photo Editor to create a painting and I want to highlight a small area, I'm limited to a rectangular section. Generally, I use the "smudge" tool to blend out the edges and integrate the area. One day, I realized I could vary the amount of smudging, including leaving some of the rectangles intact. Sometimes, that created a dramatic effect. This gallery reflects the notion of smudging as a variable, with an emphasis on showing more and hiding less -- of the rectangle.
