The Bow River runs through the very heart of my hometown, Calgary, Alberta. While it isn't a particularly large river, it certainly provides the citizens of this city with a myriad of benefits; from some of the best trout fishing in the world, to one of the all-time favourites, floating lazily down the river in a raft on a hot sunny day. I personally have many wonderful childhood memories of playing on its banks while my dad was fishing. The temptation to wade into its icy cold water (it does originate from a glacier in the Rockies, after all) was usually too much to ignore, even after being told repeatedly by our mother not to get our clothes wet,... well, you can just imagine. My brothers and I would also run along the paths beside its banks, searching for wild flowers, pine cones, or in some cases, each other. So here are some examples of the reasons why I still love to wander down by The Bow!.....
